Kindrachuk Scores Twice, But Men's Ice Hockey Drops Game To UMass-Boston On Senior Day

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Zane Kindrachuk scored two goals with an assist, but the Albertus Magnus College men's ice hockey team lost a 5-3 game to UMass-Boston in the final home game of the regular season for the Falcons at Ralph Walker Ice Rink on Saturday in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) action.

Tyler Ignazzitto (Bath, Ontario) had two assists and tied Cameron Weitzman for the most points in program history with 75. Sam Anderson (Calgary, Alberta) had an assist and is currently a point behind Ignazzitto and Weitzman all-time.

Caden Pattison (Lake Stevens, Wash.) had a goal and an assist.

All three Falcons goals came on the power play.

Prior to the game, eight players were honored for Senior Day. Kinrachuk, Ignazzitto, Anderson, JJ Berdal (Wausau, Wisc.), Matt Lenz (Grapevine, Texas), Tim Manning (Concord, Ohio), Garrett Boyonoski (Sault Ste  Marie, Ontario) and Nick Durajlija (Hamilton, Ontario) were all honored.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Both teams put goals on the board just 52 seconds apart from each other in the first period. At the 9:04 mark, Pattison found a loose puck after a shot from Kindrachuk and spun round in the left faceoff circle and ripped a shot past Tyler Bost for the power-play goal to put Albertus up, 1-0. Anderson also had an assist on the play.
  • Koyle Bankauskas tied the game at the 9:56 mark as he was fed a pass from Jude Kurtas on a 2-on-1 and took a shot past Albertus goaltender, Matt Lenz
  • Chris Merryman made it a 2-1 UMass-Boston lead when he rebounded a shot from Jacob Roberson and scored at the 16:33 mark of the first period.
  • Kindrachuk scored two power-play goals in the second period. The first coming at the 6:51 mark after a pass from Ignazzitto and made a shot at a tough angle past Bost to tie the game at 2-2. He added his second less than six minutes later as Ignazzitto made a pass from behind the net into a wrist shot from Kindrachuk who put the puck past Bost to make it a 3-2 Albertus lead.
  • At 11:38 of the third, the Beacons tied the game as Jakob Teply flung a puck from the goalline near the boards and found the back of the net to tie the game, 3-3.
  • With just 41 seconds left in regulation, the Beacons took the lead when Jack Mortson tipped in a shot from Evan Goggins. Kurtas then added an empty net goal.
