HOW IT HAPPENED
- The two teams went scoreless in the first period as Chace Hale (Pittsburgh, Pa.) stopped all 10 shots he faced while his counterpart, Anthony Beaulieu stopped all six shots he faced.
- The game remained scoreless over seven minutes into the second period until NEC put up two goals in a span of 12 seconds. After NEC's Ike Taraszewski was called for a holding penalty, the Pilgrims played a man-down, but got on the board as Gunnar Sibley scored on a 2-on-1 breakaway as David Novotny made a backhanded pass to Sibley, who knocked it in. On the ensuing faceoff, the puck was sent down towards the defensive end of Albertus. However, Novotny stole the puck behind the net, skated around front and fired the puck into the goal to give NEC the 2-0 lead.
- Albertus was able to get on the board with 1:08 remaining in the period as Lavoie grabbed a loose puck after Anderson won the puck along the boards and turned around and fired a shot past Beaulieu for his first goal of the season.
- The Falcons pulled Hale with 1:11 left in the third period to get an extra skater on the ice, but Beaulieu stopped five shots in the final minute to preserve the win for NEC. The Pilgrims clinched a spot in the NEHC tournament with the win.
