Men's Lacrosse Falls to Mount Ida 16-8

The Albertus Magnus men's lacrosse team fell to Mount Ida 16-8 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, the Falcons fall to 2-4 on the year and 1-3 in league play.  Mount Ida improved to 6-4 overall and 4-1 in league action.

The Falcons took an early 1-0 lead in the first quarter as Greg Buck (Berlin, Conn.) scored just over a minute into the game as he took a pass from Mike Choiniere (Bethany, Conn.).

The Mustangs answered with six-straight goals to take a commanding lead.  Albertus added another goal in the final seconds of the frame as Austin Burns (Bethany, Conn.) tallied his first goal of the season.

Mount Ida scored five unanswered goals in the second quarter.

In the third, Choiniere scored an unassisted goal to make the score 11-3.  After another goal by the Mustangs, Buck scored his second goal of the game as he finished on a pass from Justin Bennet (Fairfield, Conn.). After the third, the Falcons' trailed 14-4.

The Falcons' opened the fourth with two consecutive goals by Choiniere and Buck to cut the Mustangs' lead to 14-6. Michael Ciarleglio (West Haven, Conn.) tallied the Falcons' seventh goal of the day as Bennet received credit for the assist.

Albertus' final goal came with 1:28 to go on the clock as Choiniere scored an unassisted goal.

The Mustangs' Zach Rosen tallied a hat trick to go along with five assists.  Zach Davis also notched a hat trick.

Choiniere and Buck tallied three goals a piece to lead Albertus.

Bennet won 13 of the 27 draws that he took, while he dished out three assists and grabbed six ground balls for the Falcons.

Mount Ida's Kyle Cordaro made one save and allowed two goals to earn the win, while Tyler McElreath made six stops in the fourth quarter.  Anthony Genualdo made one save in one quarter of work.

Brandon Scicchitano stopped 13 stops in goal for Albertus.  The Falcons were outshot 48-35 on the day.

The Falcons will be on the road again on Monday night when they play at Becker College at 7:00 p.m.
