JWU Edges Falcons 13-9

The Albertus Magnus men's lacrosse team battled to a 13-9 loss to Johnson & Wales (R.I.) on Wednesday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play.

With the loss, the Falcons fall to 1-9 on the year and 0-5 in league action, while JWU improved to 5-6 overall and 3-3 in the GNAC standings.

Max Stone scored four goals and tallied three assists for the Wildcats, while Eric Russo recorded three goals and five assists.

The Falcons were led by Mike Choiniere (Bethany, Conn.) who finished with five goals and one assist, while Greg Buck (Berlin, Conn.) added two goals and one assist.

Jack Kerner (Merrick, N.Y.) tallied 17 saves in today's loss for the Falcons as he fell to 1-9 on the year.

JC Guido made five saves in the win, while Nichael Russo tallied two saves in less than two minutes of work.

Albertus struck first as Buck scored off of a Justin Bennet (Fairfield, Conn.) pass to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead. Max Stone scored JWU's first three goals, all in a row, to give the Wildcats a 3-1 lead. After the frame, the Wildcats took a 4-2 lead.

JWU and the Falcons traded goals in the second quarter as the Wildcats led at the break 7-5.

The Wildcats outscored the Falcons 4-1 in the third quarter led by two goals from Brian Hillenbrand.  Dalton Sargent (Augusta, Maine) scored the first goal of the fourth quarter to make the score 11-7. Choiniere added two of his five goals in the final frame to cut the Wildcat's lead to 12-9 but a late goal by Eric Russo secured the victory for JWU at 13-9.

The Wildcats outshot Albertus 45-28 on the afternoon, including a 17-7 clip in the second quarter.

Albertus will host Emmanuel College on Saturday in a 2:30 p.m. league contest in New Haven.
