New Haven, Conn. – Senior goalkeeper John Brunetti (West Haven, Conn.) rewrote his name in the record books on Wednesday evening as the netminder stopped a program-best 31 shots in a single game during the Albertus Magnus College men's lacrosse loss to Massachusetts Maritime by a score of 17-2 at Celentano Field. Brunetti set the program record in saves with 30 last season against Norwich University.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Td Powers opened the scoring for Maritime, scoring the team's first two goals of the game. Albertus threatened by cutting the score in half at the halfway point of the first quarter on Christopher Magnifico's (Glastonbury, Conn.) ninth goal of the season. Benjamin Avakian scored next for the Bucs, recording his 100th career point and Alexandre Lucas followed four minutes late. The Bucs led 4-1 after one.

In the second quarter, the Bucs extended their 2-0 run to 8-0, scoring six goals unanswered in the second quarter. The teams went to the break with the score 10-1 in favor of the Buccaneers.

The second half began with a Powers man-up goal less than two minutes in. The Bucs would again go a whole quarter unanswered by the Falcons, scoring four times, running the streak to 12-0. They led 14-1 at the end of three.

In the fourth, the Bucs scored two quick goals in the first two minutes to take a 16-1 lead. The scored again with 4:21 left on the clock when Spencer Jones found the back of the net and made the unanswered run 15-0. The Falcons scored their second goal with just seconds left on the clock as Mykel Stinson (Bridgeport, Conn.) made it a 15-goal, 17-2 game.

KEY PERFORMERS
Albertus:

• Brunetti faced an outstanding 48 shots by Maritime, making 31 saves and allowing the 17 goals. He also finished with five ground balls and a game-high three caused turnovers.
• Freshman Andrew Luzzi (East Haven, Conn.) finished 5-of-22 in the face-off circle to go with seven ground balls and a caused turnover.
• Freshman Tyler Landsiedel (Stamford, Conn.) also served as a defensive threat causing two turnovers.

Mass. Maritime:

• Avakian scored four goals in the game and had two assists while Powers also scored four goals and tallied two assists.
• Franklin Ragge scored three times for the visitors.
• Sean Smialek and Jones posted a team-high two caused turnovers.
