Falcons Picked Eighth in Preseason Coaches’ Poll

Winthrop, Mass.- The Albertus Magnus College men's lacrosse team was picked eighth in the 2020 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Preseason Poll, a jump up from their ninth-place rank a year ago. The poll, released on Tuesday afternoon, is voted on by the league's nine head coaches.

Albertus posted an overall record of 2-12, with a conference record of 1-7 in 2019. The men's lacrosse team recorded wins against Becker College and conference opponent Regis (Mass.) College. Albertus also appeared in its first-ever GNAC Tournament last season, falling to the top-seeded Lasers of Lasell University. 

The Falcons men's lacrosse team set a program record with 279 total saves on the season. They also set program-bests in shots (149) and shots-per-game (10.6). Albertus returns a core of its top players from last year, including senior Christopher Magnifico (Glastonbury, Conn.), junior Mykel Stinson (Bridgeport, Conn.), and sophomores Andrew Luzzi (East Haven, Conn.), Dane Walsh (Bethany, Conn.) and Terrell Yarbrough (New Haven, Conn.). 

The Falcons earned 25 points, finishing in eighth place in the poll, ahead of both the University of Saint Joseph (23 points) and Regis (Mass.) (18), who rounded out the 10 teams.

Norwich University took the top spot in the rankings with 98 points, also securing eight of the possible 10 first-place votes. Lasell took the second spot with 92 points, and the final two first-place votes.

Saint Joseph's College of Maine took the third spot with 78 points with Johnson & Wales University (R.I.) following in fourth place with 62 points. Anna Maria College finished in fifth place, securing 57 points. Emmanuel (Mass.) College (50) and Rivier University (47) came in at sixth and seventh place, respectively.
