BOX

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • It was a back and forth affair through the first half of the game as Albertus jumped out to a 2-0 lead as Albanese scored his first goal of the game, sprinting down the field on his own, getting the Falcons on the board at the 12:26 mark. Kirwin scored his first off a pass from Dakari Coleman (Norwalk, Conn.), giving Albertus the two-goal lead.
  • The AMCATS responded with two of their own as Hank Gittines assisted on goals from Alex Williams and Spencer Carpenter, tying the game 2-2 going into the second period.
  • Less than a minute into the second the AMCATS turned it over deep into the Falcons' offensive end and Kirwin found Strecker to once again give the Falcons a one-goal lead. Tremblay tallied his first goal of the game as he spun on his defender and put a shot in the back of the net, putting Albertus up two goals once again.  However, the AMCATS received two straight goals from Tommy Girard and Naje Wray tied it once again.
  • Kirwin gave Albertus the lead for the third time finding an opening in the defense and taking a pass from Tremblay and scoring his second of the game at the 5:08 mark. However, the lead was short lived as the AMCATS scored on the ensuing possession just seven seconds later as Nathan Powers won the faceoff and raced down the field to tie the game at 5-5. It was the first of three straight goals from Anna Maria in a span of 34 seconds as Girard and Gittines scored to put them up, 7-5 with 4:27 left before the half.
  • The game appeared to be headed to halftime with a two-goal advantage for the AMCATS, but Strecker received the ball behind the net and ran around to fire home a goal with eight seconds left.
  • Anna Maria took control in the third period. After Ethan Quinn and Albanese swapped goals to keep it a one-goal game, the AMCATS scored two straight man-up goals from Gittines and Alex Williams to go up 10-7 with 4:25 left. Gittnes scored two more times in the period, including one with ten second remaining to take a 12-7 lead into the fourth.
  • With Albertus trailing 13-7 midway through the fourth, Strecker added his third goal of the game with 7:42 left. Kirwin scored two more times on assists from Tremblay and Strecker, but the Falcons were unable to complete the comeback.
