BOX

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Strecker opened the scoring with an unassisted tally at 12:31 in the opening quarter. After a battle at the 12-meter line, Tremblay scooped the contested ground ball before passing it to Strecker just left of the net. The junior took on a Wildcat one-on-one around the back of the net before losing his defender for the off-the-shoulder goal as Strecker went to the ground.
  • Albertus held the visitors to six shots through 12 minutes of action as Nick Duryea (East Haven, Conn.) nabbed a pair of saves in the process.
  • In the final 3:38 of the quarter, JWU (RI) netted three unanswered goals for the 3-1 advantage.
  • In the second quarter, Johnson & Wales tallied two more goals, but back-to-back goals in the final two minutes of the period cut the Falcons' deficit to two before the break. After another saved shot by Duryea, Jahsai Martin-Fish (Stamford, Conn.) kept the ball in play and brought it into the attack area, but applied pressure forced the junior to send the ball to Brikes as he hit the turf. Brikes carefully calculated a direct route to the goal before whizzing past defenders for the short-ranged bullet. With 14 seconds remaining in the half, Albertus took a timeout as the Falcons came out buzzing followed by the goal from Tremblay off the quick pass by Bradley. After playing a quick game of keep away, Bradley cradled the ball near the blueline followed by a lateral into Tremblay's pocket as the second-year Falcon collected the hosts' third goal of the game with three seconds left on the clock.
  • Five goals in the third period gave the Wildcats the 11-3 edge, as Jack Davis and Jacob Tresser both scored twice.
  • After being down 12-3 in the fourth quarter, the Falcons went on another scoring stretch with three goals in five minutes of action. Coleman delivered a low pass to Tremblay through traffic for a no-look shovel throw into the back of the net at 13:16. As the Wildcats were down a pair of defenders, Coleman recovered a dangerous pass after a scuffle for the ball before spinning around to make the unassisted goal at 10:10 in the final period. Brikes was left alone inside the eight-meter fan as Strecker saw the open-man opportunity with a low pass into Brikes' pocket before the quick shot into the cage to narrow the gap to 12-6 with 8:35 remaining in regulation.
  • JWU tallied five more goals to close out the game, including a man-up and a man-down goal.
