Howard Lifts Falcons to 2-1 Overtime Victory

Senior Jamal Howard (West Haven, Conn.) scored in the 100th minute to lift the Albertus Magnus men's soccer team to a 2-1 overtime victory over GNAC opponent Saint Joseph's College (Maine) on Saturday afternoon on the Monks' home field.

Howard, who has scored four goals for the Falcons this week, scored the unassisted game-winning goal at the 99:27 mark to improve Albertus' record on the year to 4-2 and 2-0 in conference play.

Saint Joseph's (3-2, 1-1 GNAC) scored first as Mike Sanfilippo connected on a cross from Zach Johnson in the 30th minute, giving the Monks' the early lead.

Howard scored his first goal of the afternoon in the 73rd minute to tie the contest at one, eventually forcing the game into overtime.

In the Falcons' first overtime game of the year, Howard was the hero, scoring his second unassisted goal to give Albertus the win.

Saint Joseph's outshot the Falcons 23-20 but the teams' tied on shots in the overtime period, 2-2.

In just over 99 minutes of work, Donato Piroscafo (Naugatuck, Conn.) allowed one goal but made four saves in his fourth victory in net for the Falcons. Kenny Grade allowed two goals and made seven stops for the Monks.

Albertus has now won three straight contests and will host Mitchell College on Wednesday, Sept. 21 in non-conference action at Celentano Field. Game time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
