Bernardo, Wajnowski Named GNAC Coaches of the Year

Albertus Magnus head men's soccer coach Jim Bernardo and head women's soccer coach Nick Wajnowski have been named the 2011 GNAC Coaches of the Year, announced Wednesday evening by the conference office.

Bernardo, in his seventh season as the Albertus head men's soccer coach and a 1998 Albertus Magnus graduate, earns the GNAC Coach of the Year honor for the second-straight season as he led his Falcons to a 10-0 record in conference play. The Falcons are undefeated in their last 15 contests and are 15-2-1 on the year heading into the conference tournament semifinals on Thursday.

The Falcons' victory in the GNAC quarterfinals on Monday tied the program's single-season record in wins, which was set a year ago. In the past two seasons, Bernardo has led his teams to a combined record of 30-8-2.

In just his fifth season as the head coach of the Albertus women's soccer program, Wajnowski earns the GNAC Coach of the Year honor for the first time in his tenure. Wajnowski, a 2006 Albertus Magnus graduate, led the Falcons to a record-breaking season as they earned 12 wins, a program-record.

With a 9-4 showing in GNAC play, the Falcons also registered a program-best tally in conference wins in a single season. On Monday, he also led his team to their first-ever GNAC Tournament victory with a 2-0 quarterfinal win over Simmons. Wajnowski's accolade also marks the first-ever Coach of the Year honor in Albertus women's soccer history.
