Four Men’s Soccer Players Earn GNAC All-Conference Honors

Four members of the Albertus Magnus men's soccer team have earned 2013 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) All-Conference honors as announced by the league office on Monday.  Junior Lindsley Barrett (Shelton, Conn.) leads the way for the Falcons as the program's lone All-Conference First Team member.

Alexis Garcia (West Haven, Conn.), who was tagged as the 2013 GNAC Rookie of the Year, along with junior Riker Mitchell (Naugatuck, Conn.) earned All-Conference Second Team honors, while senior Donato Piroscafo (Naugatuck, Conn.) landed on the All-Conference Third Team.

Barrett, who has earned All-Conference honors each year of his three-year career, finds himself on the First Team for the first time. In 2011, he was the GNAC Rookie of the Year and found himself on the Second Team, while in 2012, Barrett found himself on the Second Team once again.

In 2013, Barrett proved to be a key factor for the Falcons as he controlled the tempo of the game for the Falcons.  On the year, he started all 18 games played and registered seven points on two goals and three assists.

Garcia led the Falcons with 15 points on the year on six goals and three assists.  He was a key factor in the Falcons' six victories.  He scored the game-winning goal in a 1-0 win over Anna Maria College on Oct. 19 and scored a goal as well as assisted on the game winner in a 2-0 win at Western Connecticut State University on Oct. 2.

He was in the top-eight of the league in goals and points in 2013 and was named the GNAC Rookie of the Week on Sept. 10, Oct. 8, and Oct. 22.

Mitchell received All-Conference honors for the first time in his career. The junior was an explosive center back and was very strong in one-on-one situations.  Mitchell was a part of a Falcon defense that had six shutouts on the year.

Piroscafo, who was tagged as a Third Team member, earned All-Conference honors all four years of his career. He was a First Team member in 2012 and 2011 after being a Third Team selection in 2010.  As a senior, Piroscafo recorded 91 saves and a 1.03 goals against average with a save percentage of .827. He registered six shutouts on the year as well and made some tremendous saves that kept the Falcons in contests throughout the year.

Piroscafo also recorded a season-high nine saves against Johnson & Wales on Oct. 23 in a scoreless draw. Piroscafo finished his career with 33 shutouts and a 51-22-7 overall record.  He also tallied 376 career saves.

Senior Dan Dwyer (Hamden, Conn.) was named to the GNAC All-Sportsmanship Team as well.
