Albertus Remains Undefeated with 4-2 Win Over Mt. St. Mary's

The Albertus Magnus College men's soccer team remained undefeated on the season as they defeated visiting Mount Saint Mary's College 4-2 Tuesday afternoon.

Freshman forward Matt Stoll (Shelton, Conn.) found the back of the net from a well executed pass from senior midfielder Richard Mitchell (Naugatuck, Conn.) in the 25th minute to give the Falcons the 1-0 early lead.

The Falcons would add to their lead just two minutes later when freshmen defender Alex Perez (Hamden, Conn.) finished a rebound from sophomore Alex Zapata (Hamden, Conn.) to give Albertus the 2-0 lead.  The Falcons held a 7-2 shot advantage going into the half with that same 2-0 lead.

Albertus started the second half with an impressive goal in the 47th minute off of the head of junior midfielder Austin Tomin (Hamden, Conn.)  Senior Lindsley Barrett's (Shelton, Conn.) one-timer pass off of freshman midfielder Ben Colter's (Guilford, Conn.) service set the goal up.

The Falcons would extend their lead to 4-0 in the 53rd minute when Stoll scored his second goal of the match on a cross from sophomore forward Alexis Garcia (West Haven, Conn.).

Mount Saint Mary's would get on the board when junior forward Michael Ennis (Carmel, N.Y.) found the back of the net in the 57th minute on a Matt Garcia (Wappinger Falls, N.Y.) pass to cut the lead to 4-1.  The knights would cut the lead to 4-2 just three minutes later when Garcia would score after receiving a pass and dribbling by a defender before scoring.

Albertus held a 16-8 shot advantage in the game while Mount Saint Mary's held the 6-5 edge in corner kicks.

The Falcons improve to 3-0-1 to remain undefeated this season while Mount Saint Mary's College suffered it's first loss of the season to drop to 3-1-1.  Albertus returns to action on Saturday at 3:15 p.m. on Celentano Field when they open Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play against visiting Norwich University.
