Sophomore forward Alexis Garcia (West Haven, Conn.) scored a pair of goals while freshman Matt Stoll (Shelton, Conn.) scored his fifth goal of the season to lead Albertus over host Mitchell College 3-0 on Wednesday afternoon.
Stoll scored just 2 minutes into the contest when the Mitchell attempted to clear ball. The Falcons played a deep ball in the box that a defender cleared the ball to the 18 when Stoll volleyed it out of the air, blasting it just under the cross bar for the 1-0 lead.
The score would remain 1-0 going into halftime with the Falcons and Mitchell each taking 6 shots in the half.
Stoll would start the scoring in the 53rd minute when he sent a pass up the right side to senior midfielder Lindsley Barrett (Shelton, Conn.) who beat Mitchell goal keeper Ramazan Sinani (Waterbury, Conn.) to the ball and flicked it across the field to Garcia who finished the shot for his first goal of the afternoon.
Garcia would make the score 3-0 in the 82nd minute as Barrett delivered a beautiful corner kick in the box. The pair of scores increased Garcia's team-leading goal total to 10 on the season. The Falcons held an 8-2 corner kick advantage in the contest.
Mitchell would see their best opportunity to score stopped by freshman keeper Griffin Volta (Orange, Conn.) in the 87th minute of play to preserve the shutout victory. Mitchell College keeper Sinani finished the afternoon with eight saves.
Albertus improves to 6-1-2, 0-1-1 GNAC on the season while Mitchell drops to 3-4-1 this season. The Falcons return to action on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. when they host GNAC opponent Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Celentano Field.
