Sophomore forward Alexis Garcia (West Haven, Conn.) flicked the ball over the keeper in the 79th minute after a long pass from freshman midfielder Ben Colter (Guilford, Conn.) to give Albertus the 1-0 win over visiting Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opponent Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Saturday afternoon.

The Falcons outshot the Monks 24-13 overall while St. Joe's held the 6-5 edge in corner kicks.  Junior goalkeeper Scott Benner (Post Falls, Idaho) played well for the visitors registering nine saves including stopping three point-blank shots throughout the contest.

Albertus came out of the gate early when sophomore forward Alexis Zapata (Hamden, Conn.) hit the post in just the fifth minute of play.  The Falcons held a 13-7 shot advantage in the first half but were held scoreless behind five Benner saves including a spectactular diving stop at point blank range.  Freshman midfielder Justyn Broderick (Organe, Conn.) found himself one on one with Benner in the 43rd minute before the impressive diving stop to send the game into halftime 0-0.

The Falcons would threaten again early in the second half when in the 48th minute Benner made a point blank save on Zapata to keep the game scoreless.  Albertus Magnus freshman goal keeper Griffin Volta (Orange, Conn.) also played well for the Falcons stopping all seven shots that he faced in the contest to preserve the shutout victory.

Albertus improves to 7-1-2, 1-1-1 GNAC on the season while St. Joe's drops to 3-8, 1-1 GNAC.  The Falcons return to action on Wednesday when they host Western Connecticut State University at 4:00 p.m. on Celentano Field in a non-conference match.
