The Albertus Magnus College men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to visiting Western Connecticut State University on a rainy Wednesday afternoon.
Western Connecticut State sophomore forward Cole Hyla (East Haddam, Conn.) scored an unassisted goal in the 41st minute to give Western the 1-0 edge going into halftime.
The Falcons narrowly tied the game when sophomore Alex Zapata (Hamden, Conn.) blasted a shot that skimmed the top of the cross bar in the 58th minute. Zapata would just miss wide 10 minutes later on a free kick following a Western foul.
Alexis Garcia (West Haven, Conn.) would score his team leading 12th goal of the season in the 77th minute on a nice pass from Zapata to tie the score 1-1.
Hyla would answer in the 82nd minute with his second goal of the contest and eventual game winner when freshman forward Shane Bierfeldt (Torrington, Conn.) gave him a quality pass into the box.
The Falcons held a 15-11 shot advantage and a 10-9 edge in corner kicks on the day.
The Falcons drop to 7-2-2, 1-1-1 GNAC on the season while Western Connecticut State University improves to 4-5-1, 0-2 LEC. Albertus returns to action on Saturday when they travel to GNAC opponent Rivier University for a 2:00 p.m. start.
