Falcons Blank Suffolk 4-0; Will be 4th Seed in GNAC Tournament

On Senior Day under the lights on Saturday night, Lindsley Barrett (Shelton, Conn.) scored two goals to lift the Albertus Magnus men's soccer team to a 4-0 shutout over Suffolk University in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play.

With the win, the Falcons clinch the fourth seed in the upcoming GNAC Tournament as they will play host to Mount Ida.  The victory also improves the Falcons' record to 11-5-2 as they conclude the GNAC regular-season with a 5-3-1 league mark.  Suffolk fell to 5-8-2 on the year with the loss as well as 3-4-2 in GNAC play.

The Falcons attacked quickly and took an early 1-0 lead in the fourth minute of play when Barrett connected on his fifth goal of the season and the 20th of his career.  Nick Riccio (West Haven, Conn.) was credited with the assist.

In the 19th minute, Barrett scored again. This time he got a foot on a pass from Alexis Garcia (West Haven, Conn.) and put it into the back of the net to give the Falcons a 2-0 lead.

Albertus took a 3-0 lead in the 41st minute when Alex Zapata (Hamden, Conn.) went one on one with the Suffolk goalkeeper after receiving a perfectly placed ball in the box from teammate Matt Mueller (Cheshire, Conn.).

The lone goal of the second half came in the 85th minute when Fernando Branco (Naugatuck, Conn.) finished on a through ball in the box.  Ritchy Jean Pierre (Fairfield, Conn.) tallied the assist on the play.

Albertus outshot Suffolk 30-7 on the night, including a 17-4 clip in the opening frame.

Griffin Volta (Orange, Conn.) tallied two saves in just over 85 minutes of work for the Falcons before Adam Miedzinski (Hamden, Conn.) came into the game.

Suffolk's Nicholas Chamma tallied 12 saves, while allowing four goals in the complete 90 minutes.

As the fourth seed in the GNAC Tournament, the Falcons will host fifth-seeded Mount Ida on Saturday, November 1. Check back at a later date for the game time.
