WINTHROP, Mass. – With only a couple of weeks left before the start of the 2022 season, the Albertus Magnus College men's soccer team was tabbed fifth in the 2022 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Preseason Coaches' Poll announced on Monday afternoon.
The league's 13 head coaches awarded the Falcons 119 points in the poll to take fifth place. Albertus edged Emmanuel (Mass.) College by 13 points to earn its second consecutive fifth-place finish in the GNAC Preseason Coaches' Poll.
AMC concluded 2021 with a 10-5-1 overall record and an 8-2-1 mark in the conference to earn the No. 4 seed in the GNAC Tournament. In recognition of AMC's outstanding season, the league named Head Coach Pete Hamasian the GNAC Coach of the Year to go along with three Falcons that made the All-Conference Teams.
The GNAC Championship runner-up Norwich University took the top spot in the preseason poll by earning 162 points and six first-place votes. Saint Joseph's College of Maine, who edged the Cadets in double-overtime in the GNAC Title Game, took home the second spot in the poll with 145 points and three first-place nods.
Johnson & Wales (R.I.) University finished third in the poll with 140 points, topping the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) by eight points. Emmanuel was the last team to cross the 100-point threshold with 106 to place sixth, while Regis (Mass.) College came in seventh with 87 points.
Elms College (68), Colby-Sawyer College (65), and Anna Maria College (53) rounded out the top 10 of the poll. Dean College (43), Rivier University (34), and Lasell University (29) completed the poll in 11th, 12th, and 13th place, respectively.
