Postseason Begins

The Albertus Magnus College men's soccer team earned the fifth seed in the upcoming 2022 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Soccer Tournament and will face the fourth-seeded University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) in the quarterfinals on Saturday, Oct. 29, at 6 p.m. The Falcons and Blue Jays have squared off in each of the last three GNAC Quarters. 

Postseason Notes

  • This is the Falcons' 26th GNAC postseason appearance.
  • Albertus has an all-time postseason record of 16-22-4.
  • This is the third time Albertus and USJ have faced off in the postseason, with the Blue Jays winning the first two contests in 2019 and 2021. 

2022 Recap

  • The Falcons started the fall campaign by putting together a 2-0-1 record over their first three matches, battling to a 2-2 draw in the opener against Westfield State before defeating Mitchell College and Hunter College in back-to-back matches. 
  • AMC suffered a tough 1-0 setback to non-conference foe Endicott College before riding a five-game unbeaten streak, pulling off victories against Regis (Mass.) College, Rivier University, and Emmanual (Mass.) College. 
  • A hard-fought 2-1 loss to conference rival Johnson & Wales (RI) University closed out the Falcons' September slate.
  • The blue-and-white kicked off the month of October by defeating Colby-Sawyer College, 2-0, on Senior Day, before erupting for a season-high four goals in a shutout victory over Elms College.  
  • AMC took a tough 4-0 loss to the College of Saint Joseph's (Me.) before battling to a 1-1 draw against Dean College.  
  • The Falcons bounced back three days later with a 5-1 victory against Anna Maria College, as Yahya Kardad (Wallingford, Conn.) took control of the match with his first hat trick of the season.
  • Albertus finished the season with a pair of road setbacks to Castleton University and Norwich University.

This Year vs. St. Joseph (Conn.)  

  • The Falcons and Blue Jays battled to a scoreless draw back on September 21.
  • Roger Baldwin (New Haven, Conn.) led the Falcons' offense with three shots, while Kardad and Johan Stagnaro (East Hartford, Conn.) each tallied one shot.
  • David Lucero (East Haven, Conn.) had a season-high eight saves in net for the Falcons.
  • St. Joseph (Conn.) held the edge in shots by a 27-5 margin and in corner kicks, 7-0.

  • Anderson led the Blue Jays with 51 shots during the regular season.  
  • Eight different players on the Blue Jays have scored multiple goals this season. 
  • Matthew Goebel and Jose Miguel Garcia Martin have combined for eight shutouts, and 57 saves in net.

  • Kardad has recorded a spectacular rookie season, scoring six goals and tallying two assists for a total of 14 points.

  • Lucero also has tallied 59 saves this season between the pipes. 
  • Cortez leads the team with seven goals and three assists for a team-leading 17 points. 
  • Ben Pierce (Meriden, Conn.) and Liam O'Brien (Guilford, Conn.) each scored three goals for the Falcons, while EJ Gonzalez (Cheshire, Conn.) tallied two.  
  • Seven different players for the Falcons tallied 20 or more shots this season.
