BOX SCORE

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Blue Jays struck first on a goal from Dane Stephens just 8:46 into the match on an assist from Elijah Rowland to go up 1-0.
  • Ten minutes later, Cortez sent a corner kick into the box that found Paglia, who headed it into the back of the net to knot the score at 1-all with 25:33 left in the first half.

  • The teams traded shots for the next few minutes until the Blue Jays became the beneficiaries of an Albertus foul in the box, granting the hosts a penalty kick. DeAnte Anderson took the kick and quickly fired a strike past the Falcon keeper to give the Blue Jays a 2-1 advantage.
  • The teams continued to trade possessions for the remainder of the half, but neither squad was able to find the back of the net, and the teams headed into the halftime break, with the Falcons trailing 2-1.
  • After dribbling by a few Blue Jay defenders, Barreira fed Pierce the perfect pass that went past the keeper's fingertips to even the game again, 2-2, in the 60th minute.

  • Albertus and St. Joseph's backlines continued to shine as neither squad allowed the other to score, and the match transitioned into its first overtime period.
  • In the first OT, both Cortez and EJ Gonzalez (Cheshire, Conn.) aimed at the net for the blue-and-white but were unable to secure the victory with a score.
  • Lucero went 1-for-1 in saves during overtime to keep the Falcons in the match, and the game transitioned into its second OT period.
  • The Blue Jays' Mergim Kutlovcii finally ended the affair in the 109th minute, sending a shot into the right-hand corner of the goal to give the Blue Jays a 3-2 home victory.
