NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Off a free kick attempt by the Albertus Magnus College men's soccer team, Roger Baldwin (New Haven, Conn.) netted the game-winning goal against Anna Maria College to keep the Falcons undefeated in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference. The hosts defeated the Amcats, 1-0, on Saturday at Celetano Field for the second-consecutive home victory.

It was Baldwin's first goal of the season and sixth career goal.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Rubelsi Moran drilled a wide right shot that was kept in bounds by Thomas Terry before Terry launched one at David Lucero (East Haven, Conn.) for a save from the right side of the net. Moran caught the deflected shot for another attempt to score, but the Falcons' goalkeeper managed to deny the shot, followed by a sliding stop by Lucero on the left side of the net off the foot of Oluwafifehan Badejo. Lucero denied three straight shots within seven seconds of each other almost midway through the half for a clean sheet.
  • An Anna Maria foul allowed Elian Nava (Meriden, Conn.) to attempt a free kick for the home team near the right sideline, which was perfectly placed for Baldwin's one-timer cross-body kick from the middle left of the net and whizzed pass a slew of Amcat defenders into the nylon in the 55th minute.
  • Baldwin almost tallied another at the 78th mark from the right corner of the goalie box, but Valter Santiago leaped into the air for a diving catch.
  • In the 80th minute, Camron Brito crossed the ball across the box to Kyle Brocker but Colby Nardelli (Berlin, Conn.) headed it out the top of the box to keep the Amcats off the board.
  • Anna Maria had another close call on net two minutes later by Moran from inside the box along the left side before Gabriel Paglia (Amity, Conn.) side-stepped into the ball's pathway to block the attempt. With less than three minutes remaining in regulation, Paglia redirected another shot by Moran to complete the shutout over the conference rivals.
