NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Lorenzo Lauria (New Haven, Conn.) scored a hat trick as the Albertus Magnus College men's soccer team defeated Lasell University, 3-1 in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match on Saturday afternoon during senior day.

Lauria scored two goals in the first half, both on assists from Elijah French (Tallahassee, Fla.) and scored his final goal with under a minute remaining.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Lauria and French connected for the first goal of the game as French stole the ball from Lasell, fed a pass into the box and Lauria out ran and shielded off a defender on the far side of the net and put the shot past Lasell goalkeeper, Antonio Centracchio to make it a 1-0 game in the 10th minute.
  • In the 23rd minute, French made a touch pass to Lauria just outside the top of the box and Lauria curled a shot around two defenders into the top right corner of the net out of reach of the outstretched arms of Centracchio to make it a 2-0 game.
  • The second half remained scoreless until the 77th minute when Lasell's Shane Previti took a shot just outside the top of the box into the right corner after a pass from Michael Guzzone, cutting its deficit in half.
  • With 58 seconds left in the match, Roger Baldwin (New Haven, Conn.) lofted a pass across midfield to Lauria who was all alone with his defender. Lauria tapped the ball to himself leaving him one-on-one with Centracchio who came 10 yards out of the net.
