2010 Men's Tennis Preview

The 2010 Men's tennis team is determined to make the playoffs this year after having the chance slip through their fingers last season when they needed to beat Johnson and Wales University in their last match and lost a hard fought battle in Rhode island. The Falcons are still young, but have a lot more experience with three sophmores this year who started in every match last season. The team is led by # 1 singles player Jonathan Fetzner (East Haven, CT). Johnathan will be playing a big role this season in both singles and doubles. After playing #3 singles for most of the season last year, Johnathan is taking a big step up to play # 1 singles.  Switching between # 2 and # 3 singles will be both Tim Gabbard North Haven, CT) and Teo D'Elia (Hamden, CT). Tim Gabbard is a very complete player who has a style of play where he could switch from an offensive player and picking when and where he will hit his winners to a defensive player where he could control every ball to his opponents backhand. Tim who made 2nd Team All GNAC last season looks to build upon his singles record from last year and will play a vital role this season for the Falcons.  Teo D'Elia who will be playing either # 2 or # 3 singles depending on the opponent is also moving up to play better competition.  Teo played # 4 singles for the majority of the season last year.  " Teo is playing the best tennis I have ever seen him play and I watched Teo play since he was a Junior in High School," stated Head Coach Brian Palmer.  It looks like Teo will be matching up with Johnathan Fetzner at # 1 doubles. Switching between #4 and # 5 singles will be senior Gerald O'Connor (Hamden, CT), Freshman, James Johnson (Hartford, CT) and Junior Transfer, Frank Distante (East Haven, CT). James and Frank add a lot of depth to the tennis team this season and both look to get a lot of playing time. Gerald O'Connor who is the lone senior for the young Falcons team but is very experienced on the court and has the ability to have a great senior season.  Gerald will also be matching up with teammate Timothy Gabbard at # 2 doubles. The # 6 position will have some tuogh competition. Coach Palmer has his pick from three different players, Junior transfer Jerry Misliewski (East Haven, CT), junior Tim Foley (Chesire, CT) and senior Alvin Davis (Nassau, Bahamas). They will all have their chance in practice to prove to Coach Palmer who deserves the final starting spot.
