
The Albertus Magnus men's tennis team defeated St. Joseph's College of Brooklyn 5-4 on Thursday evening for the Falcons' first win of the 2012 season.
Senior Tim Gabbard (North Haven, Conn.) led the Falcons with a 10-3 victory in No. 1 singles as he was followed by brothers Richard and Riker Mitchell of Naugatuck, Conn. as the two swept their respective opponents by scores of 10-0.
Elvis Santana (Bronx, N.Y.) also picked up a victory in singles' play as he registered a 10-5 win in the fifth spot.
Albertus clinched a doubles' point as well, as Gabbard and Richard Mitchell downed St. Joe's top-two players in No. 1 doubles' action by a score of 8-1.
Albertus will look to pick up its first Great Northeast Athletic Conference win on Saturday as the Falcons host Johnson & Wales (R.I.) in a 1:00 p.m. match in New Haven.
