Men's Tennis Cruises to 8-1 Victory over Sage

Led by a sweep in doubles' play, the Albertus Magnus men's tennis team cruised to an 8-1 victory over Sage on Thursday afternoon in non-conference action. With the win, the Falcons improve to 2-4 on the year.

Marcus Artaiz (Hamden, Conn.) and Pete Zacharias (North Haven, Conn.) led the way with an 8-0 win in No. 1 doubles before Artaiz dominated his No. 2 singles' match with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Sage's Cory Alvarado.  Zacharias also won his singles' match with a 6-0, 7-6 win in the No. 1 spot against the Gators' Mike Hilton.

The No. 2 doubles' team of Cerrone Bell (New Haven, Conn.) and Matt Mezzei (Wallingford, Conn.) picked up an 8-3 win over Sean Alvarado and Joe Kenealy.  To round out the doubles' victories, Elvis Santana (Bronx, N.Y.) and Ahmed Abdulateef (Hamden, Conn.) edged Sages' Rick Butt and Gerard Beaudin 8-5.

Bell, Mezzei and Abdulateef each won their singles match as Mezzei defeated Kenealy in No. 4 singles' 6-1, 6-2, while Bell blanked Sean Alvarado in a pair of 6-0 sets.  Abdulateef won his singles' match with a 6-4, 6-3 victory.

Albertus returns to action on Saturday, April 6 when they travel to Johnson & Wales for an 11:00 a.m. contest.
