Men's Tennis Wins Thriller at Sarah Lawrence 5-4

The Albertus Magnus men's tennis team won a non-conference thriller against Sarah Lawrence 5-4 on Sunday afternoon. The Falcons won two of the three doubles' matches before splitting singles play with three victories.

With the score tied at 4-4 with the sixth singles' match still in action, Ahmed Abdulateef (Hamden, Conn.) pulled out an incredible match victory, winning No. 6 singles 10-8 over Sarah Lawrence's Harper Hunt.  His win secured the match victory for the Falcons as they improved to 3-5 on the year.

In doubles' action, Pete Zacharias (North Haven, Conn.) and Marcus Artaiz (Hamden, Conn.) defeated Sarah Lawrence's Phil London and Shotaro de Bourbon in the No. 1 spot 8-3, while Cerrone Bell (New Haven, Conn.) and Matt Mezzei (Wallingford, Conn.) won No. 2 doubles 8-6 over Aman Banerji and Elliott Warkus.

Following doubles' action, the Falcons split singles' play. Albertus won No. 2, No. 4 and then No. 6 singles to secure the victory.

Artaiz dominated No. 2 singles with a 10-1 win over Shotaro de Bourbon before the Falcons fell in the No. 3 spot.  Mezzei was down 4-1 in fourth singles before bouncing back to take a 10-4 victory.  Abdulateef then picked up the final win in an exciting singles' match.

The Falcons have now won two out of their last three matches.

With the loss, the Gryphons fall to 1-4 on the year.

Albertus returns to action on Saturday, April 13 at Anna Maria College. That match is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m.
