Falcons Finish 2013 with 9-0 Win over St. Joe's Brooklyn

The Albertus Magnus men's tennis team finished 2013 in dominating fashion with a 9-0 shutout victory over St. Joseph's College of Brooklyn on Sunday afternoon.  With the win, the Falcons end the season with a 6-7 record to mark the most wins for the program since finishing 2009 with a 4-5 overall mark.

Prior to Sunday's victory, the Falcons honored its lone senior, Marcus Artaiz (Hamden, Conn.) after his stellar senior season with Albertus. Artaiz finished his career perfectly, with a commanding 6-1, 6-1 win over the Bears' Jeff Bonowicz.  Artaiz finishes the year 5-8 in the no. 2 singles' spot.

Against the Bears, the Falcons were led by dominating performances by Pete Zacharias (North Haven, Conn.), Elvis Santana (Bronx, N.Y.) and Ahmed Abdulateef (Hamden, Conn.) as they all picked up pairs of 6-0 set victories.

Mathew Mezzei (Wallingford, Conn.) also picked up a win with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Nick Orlando.

In doubles' play, the Falcons earned two 8-0 victories led by Zacharias and Artaiz in the No. 1 spot as well as Abdulateef and Santana in the third position.
