Men's Tennis Opens 2015 Season with 9-0 Win over Wheelock

The Albertus Magnus men's tennis team opened the 2015 season with a dominating 9-0 win over Wheelock College on Sunday afternoon.

After sweeping doubles' competition, the Falcons cruised through singles' play.

Pete Zacharias (North Haven, Conn.) and Jeff Pellegrino (Meriden, Conn.) dowend Matt Brown and Will Spofford in No. 1 doubles by a score of 8-3.  Ross Suleski (Amesbury, Mass.) and Mathew Mezzei (Wallingford, Conn.) shutout their opponent, winning 8-0 in No. 2 doubles, while Dan Constantinidi (North Branford, Conn.) and Ahmed Abdulateef (Hamden, Conn.) won in the third spot by a score of 8-1.

Zacharias defeated Matt Brown in No. 1 singles, using a pair of 6-4 set victories, to secure the win. Suleski, in his Albertus men's tennis debut, used a pair of 6-1 set victories over Spofford to win in the second position.

Pellegrino, who also made his collegiate debut, cruised to his No. 3 singles' victory with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Jill Crane.  Mezzei, in No. 4 singles, defeated Nicholas Fenton by the same scores as Pellegrino posted.

Constantinidi and Elvis Santana (Bronx, N.Y.) also registered singles' victories as Constantinidi won No. 5 sinlges by scores of 6-4, 6-3 in a hard-fought battle.  Santana earned the No. 6 singles' win with scores of 6-1, 6-0 over Wheelock's Jack Krieger.

Albertus will head to Lesley on Wednesday night for their next match. That meeting is scheduled for an 8:00 p.m. start.
