Falcons Improve to 5-1 on the Year with 7-2 Win over Mitchell

The Albertus Magnus men's tennis team improved to 5-1 on the year with a 7-2 victory over Mitchell College on Sunday in non-conference action.  The Falcons remain unbeaten at home with a 4-0 record in New Haven this season.

Senior Ross Suleski (Amesbury, Mass) and teammate Mathew Mezzei (Wallingford, Conn.) started things off on Sunday with a dominating 8-2 win in #2 doubles before Dan Constantinidi (North Branford, Conn.) and Ahmed Abdulateef (Hamden, Conn.) played to the same score (8-2) in #3 doubles to push the Falcons out to a 2-0 lead.

The Falcons' #1 doubles team fell to Mitchell's Adam Diaz and Orson Sinclair by a score of 8-6 in a close battle to give Mitchell its first set win of the day.

Elvis Santana (Bronx, N.Y.) won #6 singles to begin singles' action for the Falcons as he defeated Anthony Drake by set scores of 6-0, 6-2. Constantinidi won #5 singles before Mezzei earned a pair of 6-1 set victories over Michael Hartley to give Albertus a 5-1 lead and clinch the match victory.

Pete Zacharias (North Haven, Conn.) and Jeff Pellegrino (Meriden, Conn.) bounced back after their doubles' loss and both won their singles' matches. Zacharias defeated Adam Diaz in a close contest, winning the first and final set 7-6 and 10-6 after Diaz took the second with a 6-1 effort.

Pellegrino defeated Michael Edwards in #3 singles 6-1, 6-3, while Suleski fell in #2 singles to Sinclair by a pair of 6-4 sets.

Albertus will host Rutgers-Camden on Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
