Men's Tennis Blanks In-State Rival Mitchell

New Haven, Conn. – The Albertus Magnus College men's tennis team won its second straight non-conference match, topping visiting Mitchell, 9-0, on Thursday afternoon at the Celentano Courts. With the victory, the Falcons improved to 5-1 on the spring, while the Mariners dropped their second straight to fall to 2-4 overall.

For the second time this season, Albertus Magnus swept doubles action. At No. 1, the duo of Pete Zacharias (North Haven, Conn.) and Mathew Mezzei (Wallingford, Conn.) earned an 8-3 win. The tandems at No. 2 and No. 3 cruised to 8-0 victories for the Falcons. At No. 2, Cerrone Bell (New Haven, Conn.) and Daniel Constantinidi (North Branford, Conn.) earned their second win of the season, while Steven Woodfield (Naugatuck, Conn.) and Ahmed Abdulateef (Hamden, Conn.) picked up their fifth victory of the year to remain unbeaten at No. 3.

In singles play, AMC took all six matches in straight sets. Mezzei netted an impressive, 6-0, 6-0, win at No. 3, while Woodfield scored a 6-0, 6-3 triumph at No. 5.

Albertus Magnus returns to action on Saturday, April 16, with a pair of road matches versus foes from the Garden State. The Falcons take on Ramapo at 10:30 am before traveling to face Rutgers-Camden at 4:30 in the afternoon.
