New London, Conn. – The Albertus Magnus College men's tennis team ended the 2016 season with a 7-2 road win against in-state rival Mitchell on Sunday afternoon at the Mack Tennis Courts.

With their second straight out of league victory, the Falcons close out the spring with a 7-4 overall record, while the host Mariners dropped their sixth match in a row to finish the year with a 2-9 mark.

Albertus Magnus got off to a quick start, sweeping doubles play with a pair of convincing victories. At No. 2 the duo of senior Cerrone Bell (New Haven, Conn.) and junior Daniel Constantinidi (North Branford, Conn.) cruised to an 8-2 triumph as did the Falcon tandem of freshman Steven Woodfield (Naugatuck, Conn.) and senior Ahmed Abdulateef (Hamden, Conn.) at No. 3. At the No. 1 position, the AMC pair of seniors Pete Zacharias (North Haven, Conn.) and Mathew Mezzei (Wallingford, Conn.) held off the opposition for an 8-6 win.

In singles play, the Falcons took four of the six matches to earn the win. Albertus Magnus took the matches at No. 3, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 in straight sets, while Zacharias dropped a three-set thriller at No. 1.

Albertus Magnus defeated Mitchell two times for the second season in a row.
