Postseason Begins

The Albertus Magnus College men's tennis team earned the third seed in the upcoming 2022 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men's Tournament that is slated to begin on Saturday, April 30th. The Falcons will face the second-seeded Chargers of Colby-Sawyer College in the semifinals slated to begin at 1:00 PM at the Kelsey Courts. 

Postseason Notes

  • This is the Falcons' second GNAC postseason appearance.
  • The last time Albertus made the postseason was back in 2019 as the Falcons faced Ramapo in the semifinals. 

2021-22 Recap

  • Albertus recorded another historic year by tying their program record in victories with eight. 
  • The blue-and-white went 1-2 in the fall, defeating Wentworth Institute of Technology by a final score of 8-1, and losing two close contests to Rhode Island College and Yeshiva University. 
  • Albertus opened the spring portion of the campaign with five straight victories, with two of those wins coming against conference foes Regis (Mass.) College and Norwich University. 
  • During that run, the Falcons also defeated non-conference opponents Brooklyn College, Salve Regina University, and Vaughn College. 
  • The Falcons went 2-2 in the month of April, defeating the Lehman College by a score of 8-1 and the Sarah Lawrence College by a score of 9-0. 
  • Albertus' two losses in the month of April came against Colby-Sawyer College and Eastern Nazarene College.

This Year vs. Colby-Sawyer

  • FINAL SCORE: Colby-Sawyer 7 | Albertus Magnus 2
  • The Falcons are 0-1 against the Chargers this season. 
  • Zak Levine (Hamden, Conn.) and Alessandro Proscino (Hamden, Conn.) each picked up singles wins for the Falcons in the match. 
  • The Chargers swept the doubles competition, 3-0, before winning four of the six singles competitions.   

Colby-Sawyer Player Highlight

  • Julius Lowman, who played mostly at No. 1 singles and doubles for the Chargers, is 10-6 in singles and is 9-6 in doubles this season. 
  • Jan Ullmann saw action mostly at the No. 2 singles spot and posted an overall singles record of 7-7. 
  • Aiden Jensen is 10-6 at No. 3 singles and No. 1 doubles play this season.
  • Earlier this season against the Falcons, Lowman lost in singles play to Levine two sets to one, while Proscino defeated Alex Edelmann at No. 5 singles. 

Albertus Magnus Player Highlight

  • Graduate student Nick Tagliaferri (Cheshire, Conn.) finished the regular season with a team-leading 10 wins in singles action.
  • Nine of Tagliaferri's singles victories were won at the No. 3 slot. 
  • Alex Hale (Wolcott, Conn.) closed out the regular season with nine wins in both singles and doubles play this season, ranking him second on the team in singles and first on the team in doubles. 
  • Levine, who played primarily at the No. 1 singles and doubles spot for the Falcons, posted an overall mark of 7-4 in singles and an 8-3 mark in doubles.
