Migliorini Named Coach of the Year, Three Falcons Earn All-GNAC Recognition

WINTHROP, Mass. – After tying the program record for wins this season, Albertus Magnus College men's tennis head coach Bob Migliorini was named the 2022 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Coach of the Year by his peers as announced Thursday morning.

Joining Migliorini with All-Conference recognition are standout players Zak Levine (Hamden, Conn.), Alex Hale (Wolcott, Conn.), and Nick Tagliaferri (Hamden, Conn.). Levine was tabbed All-GNAC First Team singles, while Levine and Hale made Second Team singles.

Migliorini collects his first conference Coach of the Year honor after leading the Falcons to a program-record, tying eight wins this season. The team posted an 8-5 overall record and a 2-2 mark in the GNAC to earn the No. 3 seed in the league tournament and an appearance in the GNAC Semifinals. Albertus won five consecutive matches in the month of March, ending with an exciting 5-4 road triumph over Norwich University on March 25.

Leading the way for the Falcons was Levine, who took home his second All-Conference honor after being named Second Team singles as a freshman in 2019. The Hamden, Conn., native went 7-5 in singles play this season, commanding the No. 1 spot for the team in all but one match. Levine also earned two GNAC singles wins, topping the No. 1 player against Norwich and Colby-Sawyer College. His league losses came against fellow First Teamers Julius Lowman and Andrew Bienvenu.

Hale's All-GNAC accolade is a first for the senior. A product of Wolcott, Conn., Hale was second on the team with nine wins, going 9-4 in singles action playing primarily at the No. 2 spot. He won his lone No. 1 singles match of the year, defeating Sarah Lawrence College's top singles player 6-0, 6-0. Hale also bested the Cadets' No. 2 player for his lone GNAC win of the season.

Tagliaferri earned his first All-Conference recognition in his final collegiate season after posting a team-best 10-2 record as Albertus' No. 3 singles player. The graduate student from Hamden, Conn., went 2-2 in league play, earning victories in the Norwich and Regis (Mass.) College matches. Tagliaferri also won his lone contest at the No. 2 slot for the Falcons, winning 6-0, 6-0 at Sarah Lawrence.

Julien-Jean Baptiste (Montreal, Quebec) represented the Falcons on the 2022 GNAC All-Sportsmanship Team. Baptiste appeared in 11 matches for the Falcons, playing at No. 4, 5, and 6 singles and No. 3 doubles. The Montreal, Quebec, native recorded a 9-12 overall record, going 5-5 in singles play and 4-7 in doubles. He tallied one victory in GNAC action, winning at no. 5 singles against Regis.
