NEW HAVEN, Conn. — The Albertus Magnus College men's tennis team commanded Celentano Courts on Sunday for a 6-1 triumph over Lehman College and opened the season 2-0 — the program's best start since 2016, where the team boasted a 3-0 record to open the campaign.
Dating back to last season, the Falcons have won three straight matches.
Albertus swept the Lightning in doubles action for a point. No. 3 partners Peter Keese (Minnetonka, Minn.) and Caden Pattison (Lake Stevens, Wash.) tabbed the first tally of the match in a perfect 8-0 victory. Eric Chamandy (Waterbury, Conn.) and Zane Kindrachuk (Calgary, Alberta) collected the next point for the hosts in an 8-3 victory at No. 2 Doubles, followed by an 8-2 win by Diego Martinez Jimenez and Justin Arvelo (Waterbury, Conn.) at No. 1 Doubles.
Chamandy continued to dominate for the Falcons for the first singles' point at No. 2, followed by Pattison's 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 5 Singles for the third point. Kindrachuk notched the match point of the match at No. 1 Singles.
Lehman's Ian Lanter grabbed the only point for the visitors at No. 6 singles. Lanter secured the tightly contested first set with a 7-5 win, but Akezhan Melis (Wexford, Pa.) tied the match in the second with a 6-2 victory, before falling 8-2 in the final set. In No. 4 Singles, Keese earned the fifth point for the hosts and Arvelo secured the final tally at No. 3 Singles. Arvelo dropped the first set, 6-4, but rallied back to take the final two in a 6-2, 8-6 triumph.
Chamandy, Pattison, Arvelo and Kindrachuk have posted 2-0 records in back-to-back matches for the Falcons, while Keese secured a perfect record for the first time in his career.
