NEW HAVEN, Conn. — The Albertus Magnus College men's tennis team remained undefeated on the season and have won six-straight dating back to last season following a 6-1 victory at St. Joseph's University (LI) on Friday. The last time Albertus had a six game winning streak was in the 2019 season.
Albertus swept doubles action for the first point of the match, for the fifth straight time this season.
Eric Chamandy (Montreal, Québec) nabbed the first singles' point at No. 2 for in a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Tim Celone. At No. 4 Singles, Peter Keese (Minnetonka, Minn.) only allowed two points in a straight-set win to put the Falcons up, 3-0, followed by another Albertus triumph by Bailey Kirwin (Barrie, Ontario) at No. 6 Singles.
Caden Pattison (Lake Stevens, Wash.) and Diego Martinez Jimenez tallied back-to-back points for the team at No. 5 and No. 1, respectively. Martinez Jimenez earned the first set win (6-2), but Nick Nemickas rallied back in the second set for the win (6-1). The sophomore garnered the tie-breaker set in a huge 10-4 victory.
The Golden Eagles tabbed the last point of the match at No. 3 Singles. Nolan Knipfing secured the tightly contested first set (6-4) over Justin Arvelo (Waterbury, Conn.), but the first-year dominated in the second for the win (6-0). Arvelo battled through the tie-breaker but narrowly fell, 13-11, to Knipfing.
Chamandy, Martinez Jimenez, Keese and Kirwin posted a perfect 2-0 record on the day. Cody Walker (Boise, Idaho) went 1-0 with a No 2. Doubles win, along with a 1-0 record for Pattison at No. 5 Singles.
