Men’s Volleyball Soars to 3-1 Win over Emerson

Led by a career-high 26 kills from Brendan Charamut (Southington, Conn.), the Albertus Magnus men's volleyball team downed Emerson College 3-1 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Saturday afternoon. The match scores were 25-23, 25-17, 20-25, 28-26.

With the win in the close match, the Falcons have swept their series with Emerson in the 2012 regular season. The Falcons move to 13-4 on the year with the victory and 2-4 in GNAC play. Emerson drops to 7-10 overall and 2-6 in the league standings.

Charamut registered his 26 kills in 56 attempts as he hit .339 for the Falcons. Carlos Torres (Adjuntas, Puerto Rico) dished out a season-high 62 assists, while he added two service aces and 11 digs.

Chase Brinton (Bethany, Conn.) led Albertus with 13 digs, while he added 17 kills, a career-high as well. His 17-kill effort also marked his second match of the season with double-digit kills.

In today's opening set, the Falcons took a 25-23 victory led by 10 kills from Charamut in 15 tries. Torres dished out 17 of his assists in the frame as the Falcons recorded 18 kills in the set. The Falcons also registered 11 hitting errors to allow Emerson to stay in the game.

After the Falcons won the second set 25-17, Emerson bounced back and took the third game 25-20. The Falcons recorded just 13 kills in the frame as Brinton led his team with four. Emerson tallied 12 kills in the set in 35 attempts.

The Falcons dominated early in the final set, taking a 3-1 lead out of the gate. Emerson went on to tie the game and then take the lead as they extended their advantage to as much as three at 22-19. Albertus battled back as well and tied the game at 24 after the Lions went ahead 24-21 on an Albertus service error.

After tying the set at 26 apiece, back-to-back kills from Charamut and sophomore Douglas DeSousa (Danbury, Conn.) secured the set and match victory for the Falcons as they won 28-26.

DeSousa contributed with 14 kills, one solo block and 10 digs in the contest.
