JWU Edges Falcons 3-1 in Men’s Volleyball

The Albertus Magnus men's volleyball team fell to Johnson & Wales (R.I.) 3-1 on Thursday night in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play in Providence, R.I. After falling in the first two sets by scores of 25-23, the Falcons took the third set 25-20 before JWU came back with a 25-21 fourth-set win.

The close GNAC match win improves the Wildcats record to 13-11 on the year and 6-4 in league play, while the Falcons move to 15-5 overall with a 3-5 mark in GNAC action.

The Falcons recorded just 38 kills in 117 attempts, while the Wildcats tallied double-digit kill efforts in each set en route to the victory.

JWU was led by freshman Don Dias with 11 kills and six blocks, while J.J. Bessette tallied 44 assists.

Freshman Glenn Johnson (Newington, Conn.) led the way for Albertus with 10 kills and seven digs while sophomore Carlos Torres (Adjuntas, Puerto Rico) had 29 assists for the Falcons.

Douglas DeSousa (Danbury, Conn.) tallied six kills for the Falcons along with a team-high 12 digs. Chase Brinton (Bethany, Conn.) contributed with eight kills and nine digs for Albertus as well.

Albertus heads to Nashua, N.H. on Saturday for a GNAC tri-match at Rivier College. The Falcons will take on both the Raiders and the Mount Ida Mustangs in conference play.
