Falcons Earn First-Ever Postseason Win; Down Wentworth 3-1

The Albertus Magnus men's volleyball team won three-straight sets en route to a 3-1 (22-25, 25-21, 25-16, 27-25) victory over Wentworth in the First Round of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament. The win marks the program's first postseason victory as it was the Falcons' first-ever appearance in the GNAC Tournament.

With tonight's win, the Falcons will advance to the GNAC Tournament semifinals where they will face top-seeded Rivier on Thursday, April 12 in Nashua, N.H. Rivier is currently ranked 12th according to the April 3rd AVCA Poll. The victory also improves the Falcons' overall record to 19-8.

Freshman Glenn Johnson (Newington, Conn.) tallied 19 kills, while Carlos Torres (Adjuntas, Puerto Rico) dished out 47 assists and had 14 digs in the Falcons' win. Douglas DeSousa (Danbury, Conn.) recorded a team-best 18 digs to lead the way as well.

Wentworth took a 1-0 lead in the match with a close 25-22 win in the opening set. Despite the loss, Johnson posted six of the Falcons' 16 kills in the set. Albertus picked up its first set win in the second with a 25-21 victory. In the set, the score was tied seven times, while Johnson registered four kills.

Albertus took a 2-1 lead with a dominating 25-16 win in the third before taking a 27-25 victory to clinch its first-ever postseason win.

Sophomore Brendan Charamut (Southington, Conn.), the GNAC Rookie of the Week, registered 16 kills on the night, while Chase Brinton (Bethany, Conn.) added 14.

The Falcons will play Rivier at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday with the winner of that contest advancing to the GNAC Finals on Saturday, April 14.
