Falcons Cruise to 3-0 Win over Regis College

The Albertus Magnus men's volleyball team used 14 kills and a .591 hitting percentage in the final frame to cruise to a 3-0 (25-10, 25-16, 25-11) win in non-conference action on Thursday night.

With the win, the Falcons improve to 3-0 on the year, while Regis opened up its 2013 campaign with the loss.

Sophomore Glenn Johnson (Newington, Conn.) and Douglas DeSousa (Danbury, Conn.) led the Falcons with eight kills apiece, while DeSousa added six digs and two service aces.  Carlos Torres (Adjuntas, Puerto Rico) dished out 19 assists on the night to help the Falcons' to victory.

The Falcons hit .195 on the night with 29 kills in 77 tries, while Regis tallied just eight total kills in 63 attempts along with 20 hitting miscues.

Albertus opened the first set with a 4-0 run before extending its lead to 9-4. After a point for Regis on a kill by Dan Berdichevsky, the Falcons put together a 9-1 run as Chase Brinton (Bethany, Conn.) served nine-straight points to put Albertus ahead 18-5. The Falcons went on to down the Pride 25-10.

The second set saw three tied scores and one lead change after Regis opened the set after an Albertus service error. The set was opened with five service errors in the first six points before the Falcons broke out of a six-all tie with a 10-4 run to take a 16-10 lead. Albertus eventually pushed out to a 24-14 advantage before securing a 25-16 win.

Albertus cruised in the third set thanks to 14 kills in 22 attempts and a .591 hitting percentage.

Brinton added seven kills for the Falcons in tonight's match, while Mike Clark (North Haven, Conn.) chipped in with six digs.

Albertus returns to play on Feb. 12 when the Falcons travel to Sarah Lawrence at 7:00 p.m.
