Men’s Volleyball Drops 3-1 Decision at Newbury

Despite 15 kills and 10 digs from Douglas DeSousa (Danbury, Conn.), the Albertus Magnus men's volleyball team dropped a 3-1 (25-15, 26-28, 25-16, 25-21) decision to Newbury on Saturday afternoon.

DeSousa also dished out 14 assists as he hit .222 for the Falcons.

Albertus (4-2) picked up its second loss of the day with its four-set loss to the Nighthawks.

Newbury (2-5) opened the match by cruising to a 25-15 victory thanks to 13 kills and just three hitting errors in 31 attempts. Albertus recorded eight kills in the set along with seven hitting errors as they struggled to open the match.

The Falcons bounced back in the second set to take a 28-26 win. The Falcons recorded 18 kills in the set along with 11 errors as both teams hit under .160 in the frame.

Newbury went on to cruise to the match victory as they downed the Falcons 25-16 in the third set and 25-21 in the fourth.  Chi Yin Li led the Nighthawks with 17 kills in 38 tries, while Jake Powell added 15 kills and 12 digs.

For the Falcons, Carlos Torres (Adjuntas, Puerto Rico) registered nine kills, a match-high 18 digs and seven assists. Albertus returns to action when the Falcons travel to Johnson & Wales (R.I.) on Feb. 20 to open league play.
