Falcons Drop 3-0 Decision at Emerson

The Albertus Magnus men's volleyball team fell to Emerson College 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-22) on Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play in Boston.

With the loss, the Falcons fall to 7-4 on the year and 0-2 in GNAC play. Emerson uses the win to improve to 8-9 overall and 2-3 in league action.

Glenn Johnson (Newington, Conn.) led the Falcons with 14 kills in 38 tries as the Falcons finished the match hitting .043.  

Carlos Torres (Adjuntas, Puerto Rico) handed out 23 assists in the match as he added a team-high seven digs, while recording two blocks. Chase Brinton (Bethany, Conn.) contributed with seven kills as well.

In the opening set, the Falcons recorded 10 kills and nine hitting errors in 29 attempts, while Emerson picked up 11 kills with just three errors for a .400 hitting percentage. Emerson finished the afternoon hitting .278 in the GNAC win.

In the second set, the teams traded points until Emerson broke a seven-all tie to take an 11-8 lead before pushing out to a 21-14 advantage. A hitting error by Johnson ended the set with a 25-17 Emerson victory.

In the final set, Emerson opened with a 3-1 run before the Falcons tied the game at seven. After the set was tied at 15, the Lions jumped out to a 17-15 lead before an Albertus timeout. Out of the break, the Falcons battled back to tie the game at 17. A 5-1 run by Emerson gave the Lions a 22-18 lead before the Falcons climbed to within one at 23-22 thanks to a block by Johnson and junior Chris Pfeffer (Torrington, Conn.).  In the close third set, an attack error by the Falcons and a service ace by Emerson's Connor Burton gave the Lions a 25-22 victory.

Pfeffer finished the match with three kills and a block for the Falcons.

Emerson was led by Alex Frapech who finished with a match-high 16 kills and a .323 hitting percentage.  He added eight digs and two blocks for the Lions.

Albertus will return to action on Thursday, March 7 when the Falcons host Lasell College in GNAC play. That match is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start.
