Sophomore Glenn Johnson (Newington, Conn.) registered a match-high 19 kills as the Albertus Magnus men's volleyball team fell to Emerson College 3-1 (17-25, 27-25, 26-24, 25-23) in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on Saturday afternoon in Nashua, N.H.

Johnson's 19 kills came in 37 attempts as he hit .405 in the match despite the loss.  He added six blocks and four digs.

In a back-and-forth close match-up, there were 24 tied scores and seven lead changes throughout the match.

Albertus won the opening set 25-17 thanks to an early 5-1 run before taking a 10-6 lead on a Chase Brinton (Bethany, Conn.) kill.  The Falcons pushed out to a 19-13 lead before a time out.  Out of the break, the Falcons put together a 6-4 run to secure the victory as Brinton registered another kill to end the frame.

The Falcons held a 23-17 lead in the second set before taking a 24-20 lead after a time out as Johnson recorded one of his 19 kills in the match.  Five-straight Emerson points gave the Lions a 25-24 advantage before back-to-back Emerson kills gave the Lions a 27-25 victory.

Emerson opened the third set with an 8-0 run before taking a 15-5 lead. After going ahead 23-15, Albertus battled back to within five at 23-18 but Emerson went on to take a 26-24 win.

The Lions took the final set 25-23 to clinch the GNAC match victory.

Albertus' Carlos Torres (Adjuntas, Puerto Rico) finished the match with 32 assists and seven digs along with seven service errors, while Brinton added seven kills, four blocks and seven digs. Douglas DeSousa (Danbury, Conn.) added eight kills, eight assists and eight digs.

Freshman Justin Tharau (Burlington, Conn.) added four kills, two blocks and five digs for the Falcons as well.  Mike Clark (North Haven, Conn.) contributed with nine digs, a team-high.

Albertus returns to action when the Falcons host Wentworth on Tuesday, March 19 at 7:00 p.m.
