Falcons Improve to 4-0, Blank Sarah Lawrence 3-0

The Albertus Magnus men's volleyball team blanked Sarah Lawrence 3-0 on Wednesday night in Bronxville, N.Y. with scores of 25-8, 25-18, and 25-13. The Falcons are now 4-0 on the season.

Chase Brinton (Bethany, Conn.) led all Falcons with seven kills in eight attempts for an impressive .875 hitting percentage.  Raymond Torres (Cataño, Puerto Rico) dished out 11 assists for the Falcons, while adding a team-high five service aces and six digs. Ben Spilka (Redding, Conn.) added six kills in 13 tries as well as four digs and five service aces.

The Falcons dominated play throughout the match and jumped out to a big start, taking the 25-8 first-set victory.  Chase had four kills with all four of his attempts in the set, while the Falcons tallied nine service aces in the frame and hit .462 and kept the Gryphons hitting in the red with a -.308 showing.

Torres and Justin Tharau (Burlington, Conn.) both led the Falcons with three kills in the second set en route to a 25-18 set win for the Falcons. Torres added three service aces and three digs in that set as the Falcons tallied a match-high 10 kills in the frame. 

Spilka and Brinton led the Falcons in the final set with three kills apiece. Brinton added three digs and two service aces, while Tharau added three service aces as well. Albertus won that set 25-13.  That final set was closer than the first two as there were two tied scored and two lead changes in the frame.

Ishaan Pujari led the Gryphons with eight kills in 30 attempts, while he added seven digs and four service aces. Brent Terry dished out 11 assists for the home team.

Albertus will host Yeshiva on Sunday, Feb. 23 in a noon match in New Haven.  Yeshiva is 0-4 to begin the 2014 season, while the Falcons have not lost to the Maccabees since the 2011 season.
