Falcons Fall to JWU 3-0 in Men's Volleyball

The Albertus Magnus men's volleyball team fell to Johnson & Wales (R.I.) on the road on Tuesday night 3-0 (25-15, 25-21, 25-20) in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play.

The Falcons fall to 3-13 on the year with the loss as well as 2-10 in GNAC action.  JWU improves to an impressive 19-8 overall and 7-4 in league play.

Glenn Johnson (Newington, Conn.) led the Falcons once again with eight kills as he was targeted a team-high 24 times. Joshua Turner (Trumbull, Conn.) tallied four kills in eight attempts for a .375 hitting percentage.  Turner added one block, while Johnson registered one solo block and a team-best five digs.

Ben Spilka (Redding, Conn.) also had five digs for the Falcons, while Justin Tharau (Burlington, Conn.) dished out nine assists to go along with one service ace.

Kyle MacKnight led the Wildcats with nine kills in 15 tries.  J.J. Bessette handed out 25 assists to go along with three service aces.

Albetus opened the first set up with a 4-1 run before the Wildcats tied the score at five apiece. After some back-and-forth points, the Falcons made the score 7-8 before JWU registered 10 unanswered points to take a commanding 18-7 lead. The Wildcats never looked back in the set, winning 25-15.

The second and third sets were closer battles than the first but the Falcons' rally was not enough as JWU edged Albetus 25-21 in set two and 25-20 in the final frame.

Albertus will play in a GNAC trimatch on Saturday at Emerson College.  Lasell College will also be a part of the trimatch, which is slated to begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
