Men's Volleyball Drops a Pair of GNAC Matches to Rivier and Lasell

Newton, Mass. – The Albertus Magnus College men's volleyball team dropped a pair of GNAC matches in a tri-match versus Rivier University and Lasell College on Sunday afternoon. The Falcons dropped the opener, 3-0, to the Raiders before falling to the Lasers, 3-0, in the nightcap.


MATCH 1: Rivier 3 | Albertus Magnus 0

HOW IT HAPPENED

It was an evenly matched first set as both teams battled back-and-forth and rallied through four ties until Rivier took control of the momentum of the match. Up by six, 19-13, the Raiders closed out the set with a 6-2 run to take a 1-0 lead. 

Rivier opened the second set with the early 3-0 lead until the Falcons rattled off three-straight points to tie the frame, 3-3. However, Rivier put together a 12-5 run to extend its lead to seven, 15-8, before an attack error by Joshua Turner (Trumbull, Conn.) pushed the Raiders lead to 10, 21-11, heading into a timeout. Following the short break, Rivier ended the second set with a 4-0 run.

It was quick third and final set as the Falcons fell to Rivier, 25-9.

INSIDE THE STATS

  • Joshua Turner (Trumbull, Conn.) led the offensive unit with four kills, three digs and four blocks while Felix Rivas (Danbury, Conn.) added two kills, two service aces and six digs.
  • The Falcons recorded a stats line of seven kills, six assists, two service aces, 16 digs and six blocks.
  • Rivier was led by Nathan Kunkel who recorded seven kills and two digs as well as hit .385 at the net.

MATCH 2: Lasell 3 | Albertus Magnus 0
TEAM RECORDS: Albertus Magnus (2-10, 0-7) | Lasell (21-4, 6-0)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Lasell jumped out to a 9-0 lead before the hosts found themselves up 13, 19-6. Albertus Magnus rallied off three-straight points, but came up short in set one 25-10.

The Lasers took the next two sets from the Falcons by the scores of 25-9 and 25-6.

INSIDE THE STATS

  • Turner led the Falcons in match two with a team-high four kills.
  • As a team, Albertus recorded eight kills, eight assists, 26 digs and two blocks.
  • Lasell finished the match 36 kills, 34 assists, 12 service aces, 26 digs and a block.
  • Scott Sterenberg led the Lasers with eight kills while hitting .667 at the net.

The Falcons return to action on Thursday, March 30th at Emmanuel. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
