NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Albertus Magnus College softball team hit three home runs during its doubleheader sweep of the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) on Sunday afternoon, winning game one, 10-4 before taking game two, 4-2.
Colleen Edwards (Clinton, Conn.), Mikaela Scwhippert (Whippany, N.J.) and Karla Carangelo (Cheshire, Conn.) all went deep for the Falcons over the two games.
Edwards went 4-for-7 over the day with four RBI and a run. Carangelo went 5-for-6 with four RBI and three runs and Scwhippert went 4-for-7 with four RBI and four runs.
On the pitcher's circle, Annabelle Jabs (East Hartland, Conn.) got the win in game one, pitching six innings, allowing four runs, one earned while striking out six. It was her second win in as many games.
In game two, Skylar Arent (Ridgefield, Conn.) pitched a complete game, striking out six while allowing just one earned run.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After Jabs struck out two in the top of the first for Albertus, the offense of the Falcons exploded in the bottom of the inning, scoring five runs. Isabelle Smith (Meriden, Conn.) started off with a leadoff double. After she scored on a USJ error off the bat of Gianna Carrano (West Haven, Conn.), Scwhippert came up and ripped a double to center to give Albertus a 2-0 lead. Carangelo followed with a walk and Edwards brought everyone home after she hit her first career home run to left field to put Albertus up, 5-0.
- USJ fought back with three runs in the second that included a two-run single by Jenna Zup and one more run in the top of the third on an RBI double by Emma Carpenter to make it a 5-4 game.
- The Falcons increased their lead again in the bottom of the fourth, scoring two runs, including an RBI single by Carangelo.
- Carangelo came through again in the bottom of the fifth as part of a three run inning as she hit a two-run triple to make it a 9-4 game. Edwards followed with an RBI single that scored Carangelo for the final run of the game for Albertus.
- Jabs was able to keep the USJ offense at bay over the last four innings, allowing just two hits over that time period.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blue Jays scored a run in the top of the first by the Falcons answered immediately with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Carrano and Arent hit back-to-back one out singles before Scwhippert drove a ball to left and over the fence for a three-run homer - the first of her career - to put Albertus ahead, 3-1.
- Zup gave USJ a run back with an RBI single in the top of the second.
- Arent shut down the bats of the Blue Jays after the second inning, allowing just four hits and striking out five over the last five innings.
- Carangelo hit her second homer of the season, hitting a two-run solo shot to make it a 4-2 game.
