Lady Falcons Drop Heartbreaker 61-59

Boston, MA - On Monday night the Lady Falcons dropped a tough loss 61-59 in dramatic fashion to host Newbury College at Hellenic College.  Newbury controlled the entire game until the Lady Falcons made two free throws with 22 seconds left in the game to go up 59-56. Down three, the Nighthawks pushed the ball up the floor but came up short on a layup.  The ball was rebounded by Nighthawk Jasmine Bishop (Waterville, ME) who was then fouled on the put back, sending her to the line with a chance to pull Newbury to within one.  After connecting on the first, Bishop intentionally missed the second and Jalisa Fields (Bronx, NY) pulled her biggest rebound of the night and scored a layup to tie the contest.  In the final seconds, the Lady Falcons managed to get an open look at a three pointer but came up short as the Nighthawks Junior Ashley Monteiro (Cambridge, MA) secured the rebound and was fouled in the process that sent her to the line for two free throws with just five seconds to play.  Monteiro would sink both sealing the victory for Newbury.  The Nighthawks  Center Catherine O'Connell (Quincy, MA) finished the game with a game high 18 rebounds to go along with 16 points, while Monteiro finished with15 points, seven rebounds and three assists.  Despite the loss, the Lady Falcons were led by senior forward Krystal Bryant (New Haven, CT) who finished the night with a game high 17 points and six rebounds.  Freshman guard Shanilya Bush (New Haven, CT) had a strong night for Lady Falcons finishing with 16 points and four assists.  The Lady Falcons drop to 0-2, 0-0 GNAC while Newbury College improves to 1-0, 0-0 NECC.  Albertus Magnus plays host to Bay Path College on Wednesday with a 7:00pm tip-off.
