Newtown, MA - The Albertus Magnus College Women's Basketball team couldn't overcome a late second half run by Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opponent and host Mount Ida College dropping a 61-54 decision. The Falcons received a game high 17 points from freshman guard Lianna Carrero (Hamden, CT/Hamden) on 7-14 shooting.
The Falcons trailed just 28-26 going into the second half in a game that featured both teams battling back and forth.
Mount Ida College would take a 14 point lead in the second half with the Falcons cutting the lead to 59-54 with a minute remaining in the game on a Carrero field goal. Mount Ida College junior guard Shannon Wood (Gorham, ME/Catherine McAuley) made both free throws to end the Falcons comeback bid.
Freshman guard Lindsay Karle (Wallingford, CT/Lyman Hall) added 10 points while junior forward Katelyn White (Enfield, CT/Fermi) added a team high 10 rebounds and eight points.
Mount Ida was led by Wood's team high 16 points while junior guard Jeileen Rivera (Springfield, MA/Springfield Central) chipped in 13 points and a game high 16 rebounds.
Albertus drops to 6-5, 0-2 GNAC while Mount Ida College improves to 5-8, 2-0 GNAC.
The Falcons return to action on Saturday when they travel to West Hartford, CT to take on GNAC opponent St. Joseph's College (CT) for a 1:00 pm tip-off.
