Nashua, NH - The Albertus Magnus College Women's Basketball team dropped a 79-71 decision to host and Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opponent Rivier College on Saturday afternoon. The Falcons used a late second half surge to close the game to 75-71 with under 30 seconds remaining in the game but ran out of time.
The Falcons trailed 37-29 at the half but battled throughout the second half cutting Rivier's lead to 69-67 with 1:50 remaining. Rivier College would go 10-11 from the free throw line to secure the 79-71 victory.
Albertus was led by freshman guard Lianna Carerro (Hamden, CT/Hamden) and her game high 29 points on 9-17 shooting including 9-9 from the free throw line. The Falcons received a balanced scoring attack as freshman guard Lindsay Karle (Wallingford, CT/Lyman Hall) added 13 points while sophomore guard Shanilya Bush (New Haven, CT/Wilbur Cross) and junior forward Katelyn White (Enfield, CT/Fermi) each added 11 points.
Rivier College was led by junior guard Amandra Purcell (Hudson, NH/Alvirne) and her team high 21 points. Senior forward Stacey Laine (Hudson, NH/Alvirne) added 14 points and a game high 14 rebounds.
The Falcons dropped to 8-13, 2-8 GNAC while Rivier College improves to 5-17, 3-6 GNAC.
Albertus returns to action in Boston, MA on Tuesday night as they take on GNAC opponent Emmanuel College at 7:00 PM.
