Women's Basketball Falls to Conn College 80-53

Freshman Annie Sutila (Bridgeport, Conn.) scored a career-high 10 points as the Albertus Magnus women's basketball team dropped an 80-53 decision to Connecticut College in non-conference play on Tuesday night.

Both Lianna Carrero (Hamden, Conn.) and Bianca Brown (West Haven, Conn.) added 10 points apiece for the Falcons, while Brown pulled down eight rebounds and registered two blocked shots.

With the loss, Albertus falls to 10-7 on the year, while Conn College improves to 14-3 overall with the non-league victory.

Conn College was led by Tara Gabelman with 16 points, while Jenn Shinall and Jocelyn Summers added 10 each.

In the first half of the contest, the score was tied nine times before the Camels broke open the tie and took a five-point lead with a three-point play by Jeanna Dunleavy and two free throws by Gabelman.

Conn College led at the half by seven at 37-30 led by 12 points from Gabelman, who shot 4-of-8 from the field and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line. The Camels shot 40-percent from the floor and shot 1-of-10 from behind the arc in the opening frame.

Albertus shot 38.7-percent from the field in the first half, while both Carrero and Brown led the Falcons with eight points apiece.

Conn College opened the second half of play with an 8-2 run to take a 45-32 lead three minutes into the frame. The Camels extended their run to 22-7 to take a 22-point lead with 13 minutes left in the contest. Conn College's largest lead of the night came at the 7:47 mark of the second half, when they took a 31-point lead.

The Falcons ended the night shooting 35.6-percent as they were outscored 43-23 in the second half. Conn College recorded 14 fast-break points and 44 points in the paint.

Lindsay Karle (Wallingford, Conn.) tallied seven points for the Falcons, while Nicole Acerra (East Haven, Conn.) added seven as well.

Albertus will head to Suffolk on Thursday night to take on the Rams in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match-up. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
