Kendrea Walker (New Haven, Conn.) completed a three-point play with less than 35 seconds on the clock as the Albertus Magnus women's basketball team edged Emerson College 80-75 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on Saturday afternoon.

Walker was fouled hard in the paint but made her shot attempt to give the Falcons a 76-75 lead before hitting her free-throw to extend the Albertus lead to two. After Emerson's Kristin Brice missed a lay-up, Albertus freshman Olivia Sutherland (Wallingford, Conn.) was fouled and sent to the line, where she hit both free-throw attempts to give the Falcons a four-point advantage.

Sutherland added another free-throw with four seconds left in the contest to push the Falcons out to an 80-75 lead.

With the win, the Falcons improve to 12-3 overall and even their record to 2-2 in the league standings. Emerson drops to 6-10 on the year and 2-3 in GNAC action.

Walker finished the contest with her first double-double of the season as she tallied 15 points and 11 rebounds. She shot 6-of-10 from the field and 3-of-4 from the charity stripe to lead the Falcons. Junior Lianna Carrero (Hamden, Conn.) tied her career-high with 33 points as she shot 10-of-19 from the floor, including a 3-of-4 clip from behind the arc.

The Falcons opened today's contest with an 8-2 run before extending their lead to 17-9. Emerson battled back to cut the lead to within four at 28-24 with less than eight minutes to go in the frame. Albertus bounced back to go into the break with a 43-32 lead.

Carrero tallied 19 of her 33 points in the first half as she shot 8-of-11 from the field, while adding four assists in the frame.

The Falcons led by as many as 14 points but Emerson was able to battle back to eventually tie the game at 66 with five minutes left in regulation.  The Falcons and Lions traded baskets before Emerson took a 75-74 lead with 46 seconds on the clock, which was followed by Walker's three-point play.

The Falcons shot 46.6% from the floor on the afternoon and hit 6-of-9 from behind the arc. Emerson was led by Catherine Cloutier and Kristin Brice with 20 points apiece. Cloutier added 13 rebounds, including 11 on the defensive end, and eight assists.

Emerson's only lead of the contest came in the opening 30 seconds when the Lions took a 2-0 lead on a jumper by Kristin Brice.

Carrero registered her eighth game this season with 20 or more points to lead the Falcons. Freshman Chelsea Sherrod (Bridgeport, Conn.) added six points off the bench.

Since the 1996-97 season, the Falcons are 12-5 all-time against Emerson, including a 7-2 showing on the Falcons' home court.

Albertus will head to Anna Maria on Monday, Jan. 21 for a 3:00 p.m. contest. The Falcons are 7-4 all-time against the AMCats.
